Reddy nod to purchase more electricity

HYDERABAD — In yet another major move to bridge the gap between demand and supply in the power sector, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday gave the nod for purchase of 50 per cent of the power that would be generated at the proposed 4,000 MW mega power project in Visakhapatnam district promoted by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).

ULFA chairman’s release raises hope for peace talks

GUWAHATI - Arabinda Rajkhowa, chairman of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and one of India’s most wanted fugitives, was released early Saturday from jail here. He said the outfit was ready for unconditional peace talks but a formal decision would be taken once all jailed leaders are freed.
